These three lakes are managed by Mendip Shooting Ground, the middle and lower lake are available. The lakes are in a quiet valley but you will hear plenty of gunshots as there’s a clay shooting range just up the hill.

There’s also a cafe and toilets inside the Shooting Ground main building.

Middle Lake

This is a “bites” water. It’s got a good head of fish as it’s benefitted from regular stockings of small carp and tench. There are also some more exotic ghost and koi carp, goldfish plus some rare golden tench.

The stocked fish are now growing well, the majority of the carp are in the 2lb bracket and there are some bigger fish around the 10lb mark. The tench are between 1lb and 2lb.

There’s also plenty of silver fish including some roach (or possibly hybrids) well over 2lb. If you fish a worm or maggots you’ll also catch some gloriously marked perch, as with all heavily stocked waters there could be some to specimen sizes.

Don’t expect to catch any monsters but this is a pleasant lake, if you float fish close in your float will regularly disappear and you won’t know what you’ve hooked until the fish nears the surface.

Bottom Lake.

This lake has not yet had the stocking that the middle lake has enjoyed, in time this lake will be developed but it needs some landscaping and a repair to the dam wall, that said it does have a stock of roach, rudd, and a handful of carp up to 8lb.

If you fancy something a little more challenging then this lake is a good place to spend some time on.
