The lake is home to a diverse range of fish species including still water favourites tench, rudd, roach and some good perch. Unusually there’s also the river species barbel and chub. Purdy’s has a stock of carp ranging from 5 lb all the way to 24 lb and the stocking density is sensible so you can target other species without being plagued by carp.
The lake has nine swims around its banks ensuring there is ample space for each angler.
The lake is 0.585 hectares (1.45 acres) including the island. Depths vary from 3 ft to 8 ft.
Canal Match Lake

The £10 day tickets are £2 to members and the £7 afternoon tickets are £1.75. Please note under 18s can only fish with an adult member. The Canal Match Lake is long and thin resembling a canal to provide the perfect spacing and environment for keen match anglers. For the pleasure angler it’s a great place for pole and float fishing with a rod and line. This lake has a very high stock of fish so you’ll get bites all day and you can fish with lighter lines as the bigger carp are in Purdy’s Lake. The stock of fish includes Common and Mirror Carp to 8lb, F1’s to 3lb as well as specimen Crucians to over 3lb. There is also a good mix of Bream, Roach and Rudd plus some gold fish too.
Oxygen levels are kept high by the wind coming down the valley rippling the surface of the water, it’s also supplemented by a solar powered electric aerator.
